TA WRESTLING WINS REGION 3 CHAMPIONSHIP

The Knights defended their home turf and captured the Region 3 Championship Saturday evening.  

All 14 wrestlers scored critical team points as TA withstood a strong challenge from the always tough Brookville contingent. 

Four TA wrestlers claimed individual championships. 

Jared Bell (112) rebounded from a disappointing 3rd place finish at the districts to claim a regional title with a hard fought 3-1 victory over his opponent from Broadway High School. 

Luke Kiser (125) became only the fourth TA wrestler ever to capture a regional title as a freshman,  He took a critical 5-0 decision from a Brookville wrestler that all but sealed the team championship. 

Alex Collins (152) won his first regional title with a 10-6 win in the finals over his opponent from Lord Botetourt.  Earlier on Saturday he scored an impressive major decision against his opponent from Staunton River.

Michael Laprade (285) won a triple overtime battle in the finals by an 8-7 score.  It was a repeat of the Massanutten Finals against a very strong opponent from Harrisonburg High School.

Jacob Michael (103) scored 3 very impressive wins and worked his way into the finals.  In the finals he fell 8-1 to his opponent from Brookville finishing second at his weight class.

Lupe Delgado (135) and Justin Carpenter (140) both finished third in their weigh classes to qualify for the state tournament.  Will Zigler (130) finished 4th also qualifying for the state tournament.

Mitch Thomas (119) and Jacob Liskey (171) finished 5th at their weight classes and are alternates for the state tournament next weekend in Salem.
